Useful recommendations for hair care after keratin treatment

Hair care after keratin treatment plays a key role in…

Hair care after keratin treatment plays a key role in maintaining the health, shine, and longevity of the results. Restoration is becoming an increasingly popular method for adding smoothness and strength to locks. However, to maintain the effect of the procedure for a long time, it is necessary to follow certain rules of care. In this article, we will consider useful recommendations and tips that will help you maintain your health and beauty after the course.

Preparation

Preparation

Once your therapy is complete, it’s important to familiarize yourself with a few key care steps to maintain and enhance your results.

Adhere to the recommended waiting period

After a procedure, it is important to wait a period before washing for the first time. This allows the keratin to fully absorb and bond, ensuring maximum and long-lasting effects.

Choose sulfate-free and keratin-containing shampoos

To maintain the effects, use sulfate-free shampoos. Sulfates can strip natural oils and lead to keratin loss. It is also beneficial to choose shampoos enriched with keratin to maintain its levels in the structure.

Take time to detangle your hair

After a keratin treatment, curls become firmer and less prone to tangles, but it is important to avoid rough brushing. Use a wide-toothed comb and start detangling from the ends, gradually working your way up. This will help avoid damage and keep your curls healthy.

Expect possible temporary changes in hair texture

There may be short-term changes in the texture after the procedures. For example, curls may appear straighter or less voluminous for the first few days. This is normal and the final result will show after a few washes. Keep your head properly cared for to improve its condition and maintain a healthy shine.

How is the therapy performed?

The procedure of keratinization is quite simple and fast.

Hair cleansing

Hair cleansing

The first thing to do is wash with a deep cleansing shampoo. How to do it correctly?

TECHNIQUE: Rinse the hair with water, apply shampoo, gently lather (do not touch the scalp to avoid drying), rinse.

If the client has natural, non-colored hair, it will be necessary to wash it 3 times. This helps to open the scales and more properly prepare for the penetration of keratin. On the third time you need to foam the shampoo and hold the foam on the hair for 5-7 minutes.

For lightened and colored hair it is enough to rinse 2 times. For the second time also hold the foam on the hair for 3-5 minutes.

Application of the composition

Application of the composition

After the hair is washed, you need to blot it with a towel and dry it to the wet state (do not over-dry the hair, the composition should be applied exactly on wet).

It’s not recommended to comb the hair, because after deep-cleaning shampoo they are a little bit wet and there is a serious risk of damaging them. Also, brushing closes the hair scales, and we don’t want that. The hair will easily comb through when you apply the keratin composition to it.

Note! Wear gloves If you don’t want to burn your hands.

Shake (necessarily!) a bottle with keratin and pour the minimum amount into the bowl.

To apply the composition, divide the hair into 8 zones: four occipital and four temporal. This makes it easier to distribute the keratin on the hair.

How to apply the composition: take one occipital area, divide it horizontally in half, and apply keratin with a small indentation from the roots at the top, bottom, and middle. After that, combine the strands and comb from the roots to the tips. If the composition is not enough, apply more along the length of the hair.

Important! Keratin should not be applied to the scalp (burns may occur), so always leave 2-3 cm from the roots. In case the client wants to leave more volume to the hair, and they do not curl from the roots, you can step back more.

As a result, all the hair should be in the composition and when combing with a comb, nothing should leak (if it does, apply excess composition on the ends or blot with a towel).

Drying

Drying

The most difficult step is drying your hair after keratin. It takes from 20 to 40 minutes.

We dry with cold or slightly warm air – hot air is not allowed!

The master should work on outstretched arms when applying the composition. Dry the hair directing the air of the dryer from the face of the client. You have to make sure that the client does not feel any discomfort.

Practice proper washing and conditioning techniques

When washing your head, use warm water, avoiding hot water if possible, to prevent the keratin from washing out. When shampooing, massage gently, avoiding strong friction to avoid damaging the cuticle. Pay attention to the roots and ends where the keratin may need extra care.

When moving on to conditioning, make sure to distribute the product evenly throughout the entire length. Leave the conditioner on for a few minutes to allow the active ingredients to penetrate the cells. Regular use of a keratin conditioner strengthens the structure, making curls more manageable and shiny.

Practicing proper techniques plays a key role in maintaining the effects of care and ensuring your hair is healthy for the long term.

Steps to follow for a proper first wash

First wash

After a course, it is important to follow certain steps to ensure maximum effectiveness and long-lasting results. First, wash your head for the first time after the procedure at least 72 hours later. This time is necessary for the keratin to set in the hair and create a protective film.

When choosing a shampoo, it is important to pay attention to the composition of the product. Use sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoos, as sulfates can destroy the keratin layer created during therapy. It is also worth preferring neutral and mild products to avoid excessive degreasing.

You should use the cold air method of a dryer to avoid overheating and preserve your hair’s structure. Additionally, avoid using irons and other thermal tools for the first few days after. Following these steps will keep your curls healthy and beautiful.

How often should you wash your hair?

Ideally, you should limit the frequency of washing to two to three times a week. This is because keratin creates a protective layer on the cuticle that reduces moisture loss and prevents unwanted exposure to harmful external factors.

However, the frequency of washing may depend on your individual needs and hair type. If your hair has been heavily polluted or exposed to extreme conditions, more frequent washing may be necessary. It is important to remember that using a mild and appropriate sulfate-free shampoo will maintain the long-term results of therapy.

In any case, consult about hair care after keratin treatment with your stylist or hair care professional to develop the best care schedule.
